PG Glass Lydenburg WOW!!!Young, Driven, and Building the Future of PG Glass
For 24-year-old Ivan Scott, PG Glass has never just been a business. It has always been part of home.
Born and raised in Lydenburg, Ivan completed both primary school and high school locally before graduating in 2020. After school, he went on to study Human Resources in Potchefstroom and later worked at Kruger International. But no matter where life took him, the glass industry always remained familiar territory. In September 2025, Ivan officially took over PG Glass from his father, stepping into a role he had unknowingly been preparing for since childhood.
Growing up in the business
βI grew up helping my dad from a young age,β Ivan says. βGoing to sites with him now still brings back memories. Seeing the work he did and following in those footsteps feels natural to me. Itβs something Iβve always known.β
The only thing that hasnβt felt natural?
βThe national PG Glass computer system,β he jokes. βThatβs definitely been the biggest adjustment.β
Building bigger plans for Lydenburg, Steelpoort & Dullstroom
Although Ivan respects the foundation his father built, he also has fresh ideas for the future.
βOne of my biggest goals is to start building aluminium products locally instead of bringing them in from the factory. That would reduce costs, speed up installations, and help us give clients a faster and more efficient service.β
He also wants to introduce mobile vehicle glass installations in the area. βIβd love for customers to have the convenience of us coming to them, instead of always having to come into the workshop.β
More than just vehicle glass
PG Glass handles a wide variety of services including vehicle windows, building glass, safety glass, mirrors, shopfronts, aluminium windows and doors. The company also works extensively in Steelpoort, replacing heavy machinery glass for equipment operating around the mines.
Learning as a young owner
Taking over a business at a young age comes with pressure, responsibility, and unexpected lessons.
βThe biggest lesson so far has been accepting that I donβt know everything yet,β Ivan says honestly. βThereβs still a lot to learn, but Iβm lucky to have people around me who help guide me every day.β
And through it all, one person has stood firmly by his side.
βMy mother has been my biggest supporter.β
A hands-on approach
Ivan describes himself as very hands-on in the business. A typical day includes travelling between Lydenburg and Steelpoort, visiting sites, taking measurements, checking installations, and making sure every job meets the right standard.
βIβm fortunate to have a strong office team handling sales, quotations, and insurance claims. They make it possible for me to focus on clients, installations, and quality control.β
The biggest frustration?
βThe hardest part is managing customer expectations when it comes to stock and turnaround times,β Ivan explains. βMost people want their windscreens replaced immediately, which is understandable. But because of the national PG Glass ordering system, we often only receive stock the next day. It can be frustrating for both us and the client.β
Still, Ivan approaches the challenges with determination, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility.
For him, taking over PG Glass is not only about continuing a family business. Itβs about building something stronger for the next generation while serving the community that raised him.
